Mikoto Misaka is a fictional anime character known for her striking appearance. She has chin-length brown hair with a slight wave, which she often ties up into two spiky pigtails. Her eyes are a bright and sparkling light brown, which gives her a cute and innocent appearance. She is often seen wearing a typical Japanese schoolgirl uniform, consisting of a white button-up blouse and a navy blue pleated skirt. However, her uniform is slightly modified with an armband on her left arm to indicate her Level 5 status as an "Electromaster".

Mikoto Misaka's story is set in Academy City, where she lives as a student and a powerful electromaster. She is ranked as the third strongest esper in Academy City and is respected by her peers for her abilities. Despite being young and petite, she is much stronger than she appears, and can control electricity to a remarkable extent. She can control the flow of electricity, use magnetism to levitate or move metal objects, create electromagnetic barriers, and even shoot powerful lightning bolts from her fingertips. Throughout the series, she develops her abilities further and learns to rely more on her instincts rather than her scientific calculations. Mikoto Misaka has been given the following information:
